The scientific world is much different today than it was in Mary Shelley's day. Today, there are many moral rules that prevent scientists from going too far like Frankenstein did and the novel could very well be a precursor that. Literature today is also much different than it could have been had Frankenstein never been published. It was one of, if not the first horror novels to be published and it influenced an entire genre of literature that has expanded into so many different things today. Other forms of media, such as films, television, music, and comics have been greatly influenced by Frankenstein. Many things base monsters off of the character of Frankenstein's monster, and the horror genre is present in all of those forms of media. |
